Once again we have finished our 14th summer season at the Winter Gardens Blackpool. Thanks to all the people who come back time after time to support us, it is very much appreciated.
It is with regret that we will not be performing at the Winter Gardens in 2007. Due to the decline in attendance to Blackpool in general, it was decided by the management that the Winter Gardens could only afford one act. We wish Pinapple Jack all the best for 2007 and hope that you continue to support them at the Winter Gardens. Confirmation of where we will be for the summer as not yet been decided but we will update the website when we know. I would like to finish by thanking all the people who have supported us at the Winter Gardens for the past fourteen years.
I have had several emails from people who have supported us at the Winter
Gardens over the years, who express their disappointment to learn that Tabu
will not be appearing at the Victoria Bar this year. Some of you have been kind
enough to to email the Winter Gardens. A friend has been kind
enough to email me their response which is as follows:
"Thank you for your comments received through our website I am sorry
to hear of your disappointment with our decision. This years different format
for the Victoria Bar will, I hope, prove to be more effective and interactive
which will give our customers as much pleasure as they have experienced in the
past."
Tabu Band Reunion gig
Tabu Band Reformed the other evening to celebrate our keyboard players birthday. It was a fantastic evening enjoyed by all, pictures and video footage coming shortly.
Celebrity golf tournament
A statue of Les Dawson is planned for Lytham and we were invited to attend
Fairhaven Golf Club for a celebrity tournament as part of a bid to raise £60,000
towards the costs. Having met Les Dawson in the past, we were delighted we
could take part, a great day was had by all, and many distinguished guests including
entertainment stars Joe Longthorne, Frank Carson, Chubby Brown and Roy Walker,
along with former boxing champion Henry Cooper took the trouble to travel to
the resort. The golf tournament was followed by a gala dinner at the Grand Hotel
in Lytham which had been fully-booked for months.
Friends from the Winter Gardens
We have had several requests from people who have supported us over the last
fourteen years to show images on our website that have been taken in the Victoria
Bar/Theatre bar. I have compiled a video show of images that have been sent
to us. If you have any images of yourselves or of anything to do with the Victoria
Bar/Theatre bar, please email them to me at tabu@tabuduo.co.uk
and we will add them to our images in the video section if we feel they are
suitable. You can see the images we have already compiled by going to our media/Video
page and click 'Friends at The Winter Gardens Blackpool'.
There's always a welcome in the hillsides
We have just returned from a weekend in South Wales. What a breath of fresh
air it is to play to audiences who are there to listen to the entertainment,
and not just because they have nowhere else to go. The Welsh people are friendly
people and do like their entertainment so much that they don't mind paying at
the door, which is a great way to subsidise the artistes fees. It would do no
harm for the rest of 'clubland 'to follow in the footsteps of our 'Welsh friends',
charging at the door for acts ensures that at least some of the Artistes fee
is recouped, which in return helps to keep clubland alive. It's a sad fact that
many clubs are struggling to survive and it is great to see that the welsh people
have found a way around this.
Once again thank you to our friends Steve & Sue
who accommodates us when we are down there (Sue makes a mean Sunday dinner).
It's always a pleasure to see them. Thanks to Louise for giving up her bed and
to Demi for keeping our dogs in order.
